Springthorpe Coronation Celebrations 2023

Coronation postbox

We were really lucky to be successful in our bid this year for a grant from the Community Lottery Fund to cover the costs of a village Picnic to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and to fund the purchase of a new picnic table and bench for the village green.

We all had a great day on 7th May at the Picnic. King Charles' team won the rounders, the 'Treasure' we hunted was appropriately the word 'Coronation', and we were blessed with brilliant company, gorgeous food and fine weather for the meal in the evening. Weather for the volunteer litter pick the day after was not so good but the turnout was heartening.

The picnic table and bench will be ordered after a vote at the next Parish meeting.

All the Parishioners wish to express their gratitude to the Community Lottery Fund for the opportunities this grant has afforded us.

 Coronation Poem

May 2023
By Springthorpe’s Poet Laureate

He was born Charles Philip Arthur George in nineteen forty-eight
And from his birth his destiny was to be one day head of state.
He was followed by a sister, Anne the Princess Royal
Whose duty to the Commonwealth has been resolute and loyal.

Then in sixty-three came Andrew a potential second heir
With a controversial lifestyle.... but we’d better not go there.
Finally, there’s Edward now the thirteenth one in line
Who’s gone from Earl to Duke now so I guess everything is fine.

Charles was once known as Action Man for his athletic ways
A polo-playing pilot back in his younger days.
Did you know he doesn’t have a passport? And he’s the only one that can
Drive a car without a licence, now that’s a very special man.

For twelve hundred years the Monarchy has ruled the British Isles
With all its pomp and pageantry, elegance and style.
Charles will be number sixty-two to hold the highest station
And wear the crown upon his head on this his Coronation.

If he’s like his mother the late Queen, God rest her soul
There couldn’t be a better man to fill this crucial role.
So please be now upstanding and everybody sing
Charles Philip Arthur George....God Save The King
